I was born in Eltham in south east London on 25th July 1959.
A time when Britain was still recovering from the poverty of war,
a time on the edge of technology, of supersonic travel and space exploration,
a time of many changes, of new music, new outlooks and new experiences.
The many years of black & white, of limited channels and only a few hours a day.
Radio was used far more than TV
Pirate stations were just emerging.
Days of the slipper and cane.
No calculators or computers.
Pens we had to fill with ink.
When the biggest toy we had was our
IMAGINATION !
Days of the Beatles, Rock & Roll, Skiffle, Dave Clark Five, Cliff & the Shadows and the birth of electronic music.
The Mini, Morris Minor, Imp, Cortina, Consul, Zephyr & Escort.
No seat belts or even seats, when 90mph was fast!
When sweets came in jars, several for a penny.
Beano, Dandy, Hotspur, Valiant.
MY years in the SJAB
The many influences created by Sylvia & Gerry Anderson.
Puchcards and bleeding fingers, flow diagrams and BASIC.
The first Social Media.
When smoking was almost encouraged.
When kids could roam & play.
When bullying was ignored or called normal, when it was considered as part of growing up and spine building.
Days of paper and milk rounds, saturday jobs, first time employment and wages.
